Droid X fits perfectly in this very affordable nice looking, solidly built case. A strong magnet in the flap closes the case securely but may create problems with some Android phones like Droid X. Nothing to worry as the problem can easily be solved with a free app.
Many phones have magnet sensors that trigger certain platform-specific actions. In the BlackBarry world, magnet sensing puts the phone into a holster mode which turns off the screen automatically to save the battery and to prevent accidental dialing. Thus in the BlackBerry world it is desireble and expected to have a magnet clip in a phone case. I have had a BlackBerry phone for years and enjoyed the magnet feature very much.
After buying this case I realized that Android phones such as Droid X don't behave that way. I learnded that in the Android world magnet clips are NOT expected in phone cases. Instead, magnets are placed primarily in phone specific car docks (cradles). When Android phones are placed in such docks, they sense the magnet and put themselves into a car dock mode intended to simplify the phone use in the car.
However, when an Android phone such as Droid X is placed in a holster case that has a magnet, it gets confused and assumes to be in a car dock. You pull out your phone from such a case expecting to see the home screen but instead you get the annoying car dock screen. There appears to be no simple way to deactivate the magnet sensing on the phone itself. After some research, I found a free app on the Android market that prevents accidental launching of the car dock mode. The app is called Dock Nothingness. It is not the most intuitive one but does the job.
After downloading, installing and launching the app, I had to wave the part of the case containing the magnet along the backside of the phone to activate the magnet mode. Once there, I was able to select Dock Nothingness (rather than the car dock mode) as the default action. Problem solved.
Now I am enjoying this phone case very much...
